Handling Duplicate Assets
duplicates explained duplicate assets are non unique assets within an asset group in your repository if two assets share the same identifier within an asset group, they are marked as duplicates if you have duplicates within an asset group, you may not be able to run some visualizations (for example, the metadata specification) or export some files (for example, medidata rave edc) duplicates can crop up when you've imported metadata from multiple sources you’ve cloned assets within your asset group in this instance, you may want to keep the clone and change the label and identifier so that it’s unique within the asset group you can find duplicate assets by running the validator in an asset group duplicates are shown as critical errors and must be fixed duplicates can also be flagged with the warning icon on an asset identifier property if you want to remove a duplicate asset, you must first check for any assets that reference the duplicate asset for example any questions that reference a duplicate terminology removing a duplicate asset to remove a duplicate asset find the duplicate assets using the search (cl yn in this example) 2\ view the relationships for each asset and decide which asset you want to remove it is usually easier to remove the asset with the fewest parent assets in the example below, the ‘cl yn’ terminology is referenced by two questions on two different forms 3\ rename the asset to remove, for example by adding “(delete)” to its label this lets you easily identify it 4\ go back and view the relationships tab for the “delete” asset go to each of its parent assets (click view asset) and remove the “delete” asset then associate each parent asset to the correct asset 5\ run the validator again to confirm that the issue is resolved
